The Casey-Westfield schools family suffered a heartbreaking loss on Sunday. It is with great sadness that we inform you of the sudden passing of 3rd grade teacher, Sherry Lewis. Ms. Lewis has been a much loved and esteemed part of the Monroe teaching staff for for more than 23 school years. This news is incredibly difficult for our school community, and we know it may also be deeply upsetting for you and your child.
During this time, we want to assure you that our primary concern is the well-being and support of our students, faculty, and staff. We understand that grief can affect people in different ways, and we encourage open conversations with your child, as well as offering any additional support they may need.
We are hosting several counselors from the area today to be available to speak with students and staff about this loss, and the feelings that typically surround the sudden loss of such a close person. We will continue to assess the need for additional emotional support moving forward. Children grieve in a multitude of ways and in varied amounts of time.
As we continue through this challenging process, please feel free to contact the school if you notice that your child is having difficulty. We will work together, as a team, to provide the needed support and care for your child.
Thank you for your continued support of Casey-Westfield schools.
