Today Chemistry I did one of their favorite activities of the year, glass bending. The goal is to fire polish both ends and create a 90 degree angle. It is always fun to hear the oohs and awws as they feel the glass begin to bend.

High School Cross Country raced in another unseasonably HOT one at the LIC at Robinson on Tuesday. All ran a great race against some tough competition! Next up Regionals at Lake Land on Saturday, October 24th.

The Junior High Cross Country team did a great job on Saturday at their sectional at Shelbyville. Shelbyville is known to be one of the toughest courses around and Harper Littlejohn conquered it with a PR and a 7th place finish to earn her a place to run in Bloomington at state next weekend! Ryder Rhoads, Bella Towles, and Ada Todd all received PRs for the day. Everyone ran great and improved their times from when we ran the Shelbyville Invitational a month ago but the standouts were Ryder Rhoads, Kai Jones, Greyson Robinson, Addy Cox, and Ada Todd who all improved their times by more than a minute. We are proud of all of them and their hard work this season!

Our High School Cross Country team is small but mighty. With 3 runners on Thursday for the Cumberland Meet at Lake Land they were on Fire! Rylie Large medaled with 50th place and had a PR with a time of 18:12. Amelia Washburn medaled with 54th place and had a season best with a time of 24:40. Kaleb Perie did great by receiving a PR with a time of 20:08. We are so proud of all of them! Next week is LIC at Robinson.

The Casey-Westfield Cross Country Braves had a good showing in the LEIC yesterday at Mill Creek. Harper Littlejohn finished 2nd for the girls with a PR and time of 13:28. There were PRs all around for Emmy Kusterman, Addy Cox, Callie Wolfe, Cyrus Large, and Ryder Rhoads. Garrick Boyd also received a season best. Everyone ran great! Next up is Sectional on Saturday.

Chemistry I classes completed their Physical v Chemical Changes Lab. They performed several mini experiments to determine whether or not each one was a chemical reaction or a physical reaction.

Junior High Cross Country was on fire last week at Cumberland! Top 10 finishers were Garrick Boyd with a season best and 7th place. Harper Littlejohn with 4th place and a PR. The cooler weather and a great course helped us have a great race.

High School Cross Country had nice weather on Saturday for their meet at Lawrenceville. Lawrenceville athletes led the girls and boys' teams in prayer before both races. Rylie Large narrowly missed a top ten finish by tens of a second. Kaleb Perie also had a great showing with a season best. We are proud of the whole team!

High School Cross Country competed at the Olney Invitational last Saturday. It was another HOT one. They moved the races up to be earlier but it was still warm. Everyone did a great job! Rylie Large received a medal for finishing 29th with a time of 19:01.

7th grade science class began a microscope lab today. They learned microscope parts and the basic use today. They will continue during the next couple of classes practicing their skills by looking at different materials and organisms.

Fall Rotary Athletic Heart Screening Program
The 2026 Fall Rotary Heart Screening program will be Saturday, November 7, 2026 starting at 8 a.m. in the Heart Center at Sarah Bush Lincoln. In an effort to make this valuable screening available to all high school athletes who are between 15-17 years of age (at the time of the screening), we are simplifying the distribution and collection process of the screening forms and we need your help!
The registration forms along with the parent letter are attached to this email. Please make a copy of the packet for each eligible high school athlete (must be between 15-17 years of age at time of the screening) in your school and ask your head coaches to encourage parents to mail forms back to SBL at:
