Sixth grade students are studying Ancient Egypt. To learn about the mummification process, we put apple slices in baking soda and salt for several weeks. Today, we "excavated" our mummies to observe the changes.

5th Grade students at Monroe Elementary School worked on President reports in honor of President's Day in Ms. Roseberry's Social Studies classes. They did a fantastic job!

We're still in sick season- boo! Just some reminders about when your student should stay home. Please call your student's school nurse for specific questions or concerns.

In Mrs. Davis' classroom, we practiced our skills in following directions, cutting, and writing when we created our Love Robots. We had to write about someone we love from our family and why. This was our Fun Friday activity for Valentine's week. I hope the families enjoyed them as much as we did making them.

Mrs. Davis told her class that she didn't care where they were reading their books, as long as they were reading. She told them that they could even read under their desks if they wanted to. Of course, they wanted to try it out today. What a fun way to read on Fun Friday!

Sixth grade students finished their unit on Ancient India with STEM projects. They had to protect a stupa from flooding or bring rainwater to fields with an irrigation system. Both of these projects helped us learn about monsoon seasons in India and the challenges faced in ancient times.

Sixth grade students gave storybooks they wrote to a first grade buddy for Christmas. We interviewed our buddies before Thanksgiving, so they could write for a speicific audience and purpose. They worked hard to edit and revise their books before publishing.

🤩 Fun Friday with some older students today 🤩

Here are our Quarter 2 BRAVE Dream Team Captains. These students meet our BRAVE Standards and are able to show emotion control, which was the focus of Second Step's Unit 2. Congratulations!!

Mrs. Davis' class has been enjoying Inside Recess this last week. We have learned how to play Uno. Mrs. Huffman did a lesson on playing fair and this works well with this game. Many students are also enjoying puzzles and playing with friends. It has been a fun week!!

Mrs. Perie's 4th graders learned about circuits and created light up holiday cards

Students in sixth grade participated in hands on history lessons to learn about ancient Mesopotamia and prepare for their test. They played a game to learn about bartering. Then, we wrote our names in cuineform, the oldest form of writing.

Please have your Monroe student check the lost and found to claim any item that might be theirs. Any remaining items will be donated at the end of the week.

Today Mrs. Davis' First Grade class used toothpicks and marshmallows to build 2D and 3D shapes. Then they filled out a paper showing how many sides and vertices the shape had. The class really enjoyed building and eating it afterwards.

We are learning a fun & witty way to help manage our rambunctious thoughts & words here at Monroe!🌋
