Sixth grade students continued studying prehistoric times learning about cave art dating back to the Ice Age. We spent some time creating our own cave art to appreciate the skill and effort it would have taken to make back then.

Introducing the Quarter 1 BRAVE Dream Team!! Monroe School has established a special recognition for students who demonstrate the Social and Emotional Skills that correspond with our BRAVE Standards of Behavior and our Tier 1 SEL Curriculum (Second Step). Our BRAVE Standards are Be Positive, Respect Others, Act Responsibly, Value Learning, and Expect Excellence. For Quarter 1, Second Step focused on having a growth mindset and goal setting. Each teacher nominates 3 students who they feel meet/exceed these standards. Then all the specials teachers, lunchroom supervisors, and lunch recess supervisors vote for one of the 3 students nominated in each class that they feel follow the BRAVE Standards while in their classes.

As we are heading into the time of year where illnesses are more prevalent, unfortunately there may be times your student will be sick. We love having our students present, but there are times when students need to stay home. We'll be sharing information of when to keep your student home and when your student can return to school. Keep watching for more information!

Today's glimpse into the art room-drawing from observations. The art room was set up like college art studio. The students were to draw the still life arrangement as they could view from their seat. Drawing through observation is one of the hardest skills to master. They did a great job!
